Transport Network

China Telecom owns an omni-directional, large-capacity, multi-function, high-speed, multi-means, secure and reliable telecom network. In this stereoscopic network, the fiber optic cable is the primary element, and the satellite and digital microwave links are the supplementary elements. By the end of 2008, the total length of the nationwide optical access network was 1,410,000 km. The total length of the local optical trunk line reached 575,000km, and the national long distance optical fiber line reached 209,000 km. The SDH and DWDM technologies have been adopted on a large scale and the transmission speed raised by several-dozen times. With greatly enhanced transport capacity of the satellite communications network, China Telecom has started services with a number of countries and regions through the network.

Switching Network

China`s nationwide public switched telecom network (PSTN) operated by China Telecom is rapidly developing towards digitization, integration and personalization and has become one of the world`s most advanced networks and largest network as well. Ending 31 December 2008, China Telecom`s total local telephone switching capacity amounted for 321million lines, and the long-distance automatic switching capacity totaled 9.35million circuits, and the broadband access ports reached 65.6million. China Telecom has established direct circuits with 69 telecom carriers in 40 countries and regions. While the fixed-line telephone network has been experiencing a rapid development, the intelligent network has been developing even faster as well. So far, the intelligent network has covered the whole country, such services as 300 Calling Card, 800 Free Phone and 600 Virtual Private Line have been provided nationwide. Meanwhile, to address their local demands, most of the provincial corporations and branches have built up their intra-provincial intelligent networks and have been providing very rich intelligent services such as the Mass Calling and Regional Local Telephone Service, etc. Additionally, China Telecom has built up the advanced No.7 signaling network, digital synchronous network and telecom management network (TMN) which can cover the whole country and has been providing strong support to the normal operation of diversified telecom services.

Data and Internet Network

China Telecom has always considered the data and Internet network as one of its important developing focuses and has invested more and more capital in its construction. After several years` construction, an integral and unified public data communications network platform has been basically built up across the nation, with multi-functions, multi-layers, high efficiency and technological advancement. The platform includes the China public data network(CHINADDN), China public packet switched data network (CHINAPAC), China¡¯s broadband Internet network (CHINANET), China public broadband frame relay service network (CHINAFRN) and China Telecom`s IP phone network.

China Telecom`s basic data network including CHINADDN, CHINAFRN and ATM has covered all the cities and counties within its service area. Through ATM network, China Telecom could provide customers with multiple service access, flexible broadband management and high-quality end-to-end services.

The broadband CHINANET is China`s Internet with the broadest bandwidth, largest coverage, most reliable network performance, richest information resources, most advanced network function and structure among China`s Internet networks, its international outbound bandwidth has reached 373Gbit/s. Covering all the areas where the telephone line has been available, the CHINANET is also the largest Chinese character information network in the world. CHINANET possesses most flexible accessing methods and its access nodes are scattered all over the cities and towns of the country, users can conveniently get access to the international Internet and enjoy the rich information resources and various services therein.

CN2 (CHINA Telecom Next Carrying Network) is China Telecom`s next generation multiple service carrying platform, both uniformly planned and constructed, with a coverage of 280 domestic cities and 10 overseas cities, which could support simultaneously the voice, data and video services. Within the telecom network, CN2, as the carrying network, could support soft exchange network, 3G mobile network and video ordering program, etc. At the same time, as the high quality internet, CN2 could also support MPLS, VPN and internet private line access services.

International Communications Capability

As a telecom operator that owns the largest fixed-line network in the world, China Telecom has for many years devoted its attention to reinforcing its international network infrastructure construction, such as the first submarine optic cable called ¡°China-Japan Optic Fiber Cable¡±landed in China, China-Korea Cable, FLAG Cable, etc. Later on, SEA-ME-WE3, China-US Cable System and APCN2 Cable System have been landed in China respectively, and many terrestrial optical cable systems have been completed with connections to Russia, Middle Asia countries, the Mekong River Sub-region. With all these cables and the TPE cable to be completed very soon, the super-large capacity cable crossing the Pacific Ocean, China Telecom has now become a bridge to link Europe, Asia, America, Africa and Oceania.

In addition to the large-capacity and high-efficiency submarine optical fiber cables, China Telecom, at the same time, has owned and operated two super output power and omni-directional earth stations for international satellite communications services, through which China Telecom has established direct international satellite links with many other countries.

China Telecom possesses advanced international transport and switching networks and service carrying platforms from which connections can be made to every corner of the world. Through the one-stop shopping service that has been gradually perfected, China Telecom can provide customers with global voice, Internet and bandwidth-type services.

Mobile Network

China Telecom`s mobile network is one of the largest CDMA mobile networks in the world, covering 31 provinces, municipals and autonomous regions and Marco Special Administration Region, with 114 thousand mobile base stations across the nation. China Telecom could provide the mobile roaming service to the customers at more than 200 countries and regions. Currently, China Telecom is upgrading the whole mobile network to improve the quality and carrying out the commercial operation of the 3G services.
