On 10 December 2002, the Asia-Pacific Internet Exchange (APIX) to that the set-up was mainly initiated by China Telecom was inaugurated in Shanghai and was put into service. The APIX has consolidated China Telecom's overseas network resources, technological resources and the advantage of the CHINANET information center and has been providing Internet network transit service and line transit service for ISPs and telecom operators in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan as well as in foreign countries. The operation of the APIX has enabled China Telecom to manage the center according to requirements for world advanced telecom enterprises and narrow the gap between China Telecom and those advanced enterprises, to accumulate internationalized operational experience and gradually stride towards the telecom enterprise with international competitiveness. The services provided by the APIX include: Information e Station (data transit), "Qianlichuanyin" ( It's a Chinese name, meaning "transferring voice for thousands of kilometers".) (voice transit), Interconnection with China (Agency for overseas ISPs in China's domestic services) and Information Harbour (IDC). |
