The emergency communications unit of China Telecom is a special organization that is entrusted with the emergency communications tasks. On one hand, the unit is responsible for ensuring emergency communications tasks entrusted by the national Party and government leaders and required by such suddenly happened events as dangers and disasters. And on the other hand, the unit serves the society for occasional or flexible communications required by sports and entertainment events, for replacing, supporting and supplementary communications when a public telecom network is undergoing an innovation and/or expansion, and for ordinary communications services required by various social sectors if the emergency facilities are available to do so. The emergency communications unit has served many important international meetings and sports events such as the World Gymnastic Tournament held in Tianjin, the Kunming World Expo and the Millennium Celebration Ceremony, China Football Association Super League, Formula One (F1) Car Racing in Shanghai Stop. And the unit has time and again sent work teams going to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the Republic of Korea and Brunei for providing emergency services. The unit has also provided real-time video and audio transmission services for governments, social institutions, transnational corporations and mass media of the United States of America, France, Italy and Japan. The unit has got a lot of experience and has reliable techniques. So far, seven large regional emergency communications bureaux have been set up in Hubei, Shanghai, Sichuan, Xi'an, Xinjiang, Guangdong and Fujian, some sub-bureaux or teams have been set up by some provincial telecom corporations. The nationwide emergency communications system have been equipped with a lot of advanced communications equipment, including: C-and Ku-band vehicle-carried satellite communications earth stations, portable satellite communications earth stations, portable digital microwave communications systems; point-to-multiple-access, wireless loop, digital VHF and vehicle-carried mobile telephone systems as well as vehicle-carried SPC switching systems; TV switchover systems; emergency VSAT satellite networks, vehicle-carried electric power generating systems, vehicle-carried logistic ensuring systems, IMARSAT earth stations, short wave self-adopting stations as well as the nationwide VSAT satellite network. With all these equipment, emergency voice, data, image and multimedia services can be provided. |
